About This Service

This service was introduced on February 2, 1996, to provide a free and continuously updated repository of exchange rate data for academic research and teaching. This service is made possible through resources provided by the Sauder School of Business. It is operated and maintained solely by Professor Werner Antweiler.
The earliest historical exchange rates start in 1971; however, for many currencies data are only available for the time period after the introduction of this service. Exchange rates for the IMF's Special Drawing Rights are derived from the five constituent currencies of the SDR. The time series for the Euro and the ECU have been amalgamated. Prior to January 1, 1999, the Euro time series contains ECU data, not Euro pseudo exchange rates.
More information can be found on the web page with frequently asked questions.
